ICE Moves to Deport Iranian Woman After 50 Years in US Without Criminal Record
Washington D.C. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is reportedly moving to deport an Iranian woman who has resided in the United States for five decades without a criminal record. According to Nola News, Mandana Kashanian, 64, was recently apprehended, handcuffed, and transported to a Hancock County Jail in Mississippi before being moved to an ICE detention facility in Louisiana. Kashanian initially arrived in the United States in 1978 on a student visa. Although her application for asylum was denied, federal officials had previously permitted her to remain in the country under the condition that she committed no crimes and consistently attended her scheduled immigration appointments. Reports indicate that Kashanian adhered to these requirements, never missing an appointment and maintaining a clean criminal record during her 50 years in the U.S. The current actions by ICE threaten to remove her from the country she has called home for half a century.
