Chicago Mourns Officer Krystal Rivera: Slain in the Line of Duty Chicago is mourning the loss of Police Officer Krystal Rivera, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on June 5, 2025. The 36-year-old officer, a four-year veteran of the force, was shot in the back while responding to a call in the 83rd and Drexel area. Three suspects are currently in custody. Michael Pfleger, from St. Sabina, described Officer Rivera as "a really sweet person…got along with everybody." The video also shows investigators collecting evidence at the scene of the shooting. Superintendent Larry Snelling of the Chicago Police Department stated, "She was a working police officer trying to keep the streets safe." Alderman David Moore emphasized the community's support, saying, "We just gotta make sure we put our arms around them." The incident underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement officers daily. The community is rallying around the Sixth District officers, providing food and support during this difficult time.
