Chicago Police Officer Killed in Line of Duty Chicago, IL – A 36-year-old Chicago police officer, Krystal Rivera, was tragically killed in the line of duty Thursday night in the city's Chatham neighborhood. The incident unfolded around 9:50 PM during a routine patrol when officers attempted to stop a male suspect. The suspect fled, leading officers on a foot chase into a nearby building. A second suspect, armed with a rifle, confronted the officers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Officer Rivera was struck and later succumbed to her injuries at the University of Chicago hospital. "She lost her life tragically doing the job that she loved," stated Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling, relaying words from Officer Rivera's mother. Snelling also described Rivera as a dedicated officer and mother who had served with the 6th District for four years. Another officer sustained a wrist injury during the incident. Multiple suspects are in custody, and charges are pending as the investigation continues. Three firearms were recovered from the scene.
