Teen Escapes Years of Captivity, Parents Charged with Kidnapping
A harrowing tale of child abuse unfolded in New Jersey this week as an 18-year-old girl escaped a years-long ordeal of captivity and abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather. Authorities in Camden County revealed that the teen was confined to a dog crate and later a padlocked bathroom, often chained. A neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "She definitely had scars on her wrists from being chained up." The victim's mother, Brenda Spencer, and stepfather, Branddon Mosley, now face kidnapping and assault charges. The Camden County Prosecutor's office is investigating. This case comes just weeks after a similar incident in Connecticut, raising concerns about the oversight of homeschooling. The teen's escape and the subsequent arrests serve as a stark reminder of the importance of child protection and the need for stronger regulations surrounding homeschooling.
