Gloucester Township, NJ: An 18-year-old girl's escape from a seven-year ordeal of abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather has sent shockwaves through the community. Brenda Spencer and Brandon Mosley face charges of kidnapping and abuse after the victim, who was only 11 when the abuse began, managed to escape on May 8th and report the horrific events to the police. The victim's harrowing account includes details of confinement in a dog crate, being chained in a bathroom, and living in a bare room with only a bucket as a toilet. Mosley also faces additional charges of sexual assault. Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay stated, "The revelations of an abhorrent, heinous crime are deeply disturbing." The victim's escape, aided by a compassionate neighbor, has brought hope and a renewed focus on the issue of domestic violence.
