Tokyo, Japan – A recent social media video by traveler Aaron Deache has brought attention to Japan's distinctive waste disposal system, a topic that often surprises foreign visitors. Deache, a a Spanish tourist, shared his experiences navigating the country's approach to rubbish, particularly the scarcity of public bins. "For me, without a doubt, the worst thing about Japan is the trash system," Deache stated in his video. "You're walking all day doing tourism and you have to carry a bag in your backpack, yes or yes, because there isn't a single trash can." He further elaborated on the domestic waste routine, noting that residents must accumulate their trash at home and place it out for collection only in the mornings, as depicted by large piles of garbage bags on the streets. Deache acknowledged the system's efficiency but admitted, "It's a good system, the only thing is that as a Spaniard, it's very hard for me," highlighting the cultural adjustment required for those accustomed to more accessible public disposal options.
