Kyrgyzstan GKNB Seizes 990 Hectares of Land and 54 Properties in Corruption Crackdown
Kyrgyzstan's GKNB Uncovers Massive Land Grab, Seizes 990 Hectares and 54 Properties In a significant development in the fight against corruption, Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) has announced the seizure of 990 hectares of land and 54 real estate objects in the Sokuluk district. The illegally acquired assets were allegedly held by a former deputy mayor of Sokuluk, identified only as R.I.A., and A.M.D., the chairman of the "Niva" agricultural cooperative. The GKNB investigation revealed that the land had been illegally used since the early 2000s. "The damage caused to the state is estimated at 74 million soms," stated a GKNB spokesperson in a press release. The seized properties include elite apartments in Bishkek, a cottage on the shores of scenic Lake Issyk-Kul, grain storage facilities, and other commercial assets. All were deemed illegally privatized. A criminal case has been opened on corruption charges, and both R.I.A. and A.M.D. have been arrested by order of the October District Court of Bishkek. Their detention has been extended until May 21st, and the investigation is ongoing. The GKNB's action signals a determined effort to combat corruption and recover state assets. The successful retrieval of this significant amount of land and property serves as a strong message that illegal activities will not be tolerated.
