Soy dermatólogo y éste es el peligro de ponerte perfume en el cuello: jamás lo …
Un dermatólogo advierte del peligro de perfumarse el cuello en verano: no por la tiroides, sino por el riesgo real de manchas y daños en la piel.
A recent video by dermatologist Alex Docampo addresses the widespread belief that applying perfume to the neck can negatively impact the thyroid gland. Dr. Docampo states that this claim is false, explaining that the skin acts as a robust barrier, making it practically impossible for perfume ingredients to penetrate deeply enough to reach the thyroid. "The skin is a much more resistant barrier than we think," he explains, adding that if it weren't, people would absorb water every time they entered a pool. He further clarifies that any absorption of substances is more likely to occur through respiration or the digestive system, not directly through the skin of the neck. Dr. Docampo acknowledges that while current fragrances are considered safe, future discoveries might reveal components affecting hormones. However, he emphasizes that the primary concern with applying perfume to the neck, especially for skincare enthusiasts, is photosensitivity. Many fragrances contain ingredients that react to sunlight, which can weaken the skin in the applied area, accelerating aging and causing dark spots. The dermatologist also criticized certain media outlets, including Antena 3, for perpetuating this misinformation. He suggests that some media might exploit such claims to promote alternative products, such as "natural" essential oils, without scientific backing. Dr. Docampo advises individuals to prioritize factual information from credible sources for their skincare and health decisions.
