Cómo mejorar una pensión baja, según un funcionario de la Seguridad Social
La prestación económica por jubilación trata de sustituir las rentas del trabajo por una pensión vitalicia, única e imprescriptible
Madrid, Spain – An official from the National Social Security Institute (INSS), Alfonso Muñoz, recently clarified the provisions for minimum pensions and potential supplements for retirees in Spain. In a public statement, Muñoz explained that the public pension system guarantees minimum benefits, and individuals whose contributory pensions fall below these established minimums may be eligible for an additional supplement. Muñoz detailed that the amount of a contributory pension is primarily determined by two factors: the number of years contributed and the contribution base. He acknowledged that various circumstances, such as periods of unemployment, parental leave, or difficulties in finding employment, can lead to reduced contribution periods or lower contribution bases, resulting in a pension below the minimum threshold. For pensioners whose retirement income is below the minimum established by the State's General Budgets, a supplement can be requested. For instance, a retiree over 65 years old whose spouse does not receive any benefits could see their pension increase up to 1,033 euros per month. This supplement is contingent on the individual's total annual income, excluding their pension, not exceeding 10,430 euros. Muñoz emphasized the importance of staying informed about social security matters, encouraging citizens to seek out official information regarding their entitlements.
