Bucharest, Romania – A prominent Romanian figure, Andrei Gușă, has publicly accused multinational companies operating in Romania of engaging in practices he describes as "theft," claiming they declare zero profit despite generating billions in turnover. Speaking from what appeared to be a parliamentary session, Gușă presented a list of companies, including major players in the energy sector like E.ON, Enel, and Delgaz, as well as retail giants such as Carrefour and Unilever, and telecommunication providers like Vodafone, Orange, and Telekom. He asserted that these companies report no taxable profit in Romania, despite their substantial revenues. Gușă criticized the current government, referring to it as a "Toxic Coalition," for allegedly allowing these practices. He argued that this situation impoverishes Romanian citizens and leads to the decline of local businesses, stating, "Many Romanians, one in three, are at risk of poverty according to Eurostat." He rhetorically questioned why these companies remain in Romania if they cannot declare a profit, suggesting they should leave or operate on other markets. Gușă emphasized that the declared zero profit means all the money is transferred to other countries or into the pockets of shareholders, rather than contributing to the Romanian economy through taxes. He concluded by stating that history will not forgive those responsible for this situation.
