Bucharest, Romania – Andrei Gușă, a public figure, has publicly accused the current Romanian government, led by Prime Minister Boloșan, of protecting the gambling cartel. In a recent statement made from what appeared to be a parliamentary setting, Gușă questioned whether this protection stems from lobbying efforts or direct bribes, stating, "The anti-Romanian Boloșan Government protects the gambling cartel: lobby, bribe, or both?" Gușă highlighted concerns regarding the government's taxation policies, noting that while there was talk of significantly increasing taxes on the gambling industry from 3% to 10% as a 'vice tax' (similar to alcohol and tobacco), the actual increase has only been to 4%. He contrasted this with the substantial tax increases imposed on Romanian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and domestic consumers. "There are no additional taxation measures for multinationals, but instead, there are many taxation measures for SMEs and for the domestic consumer," Gușă stated. He further claimed that the government's measures are 'ridiculous' and that it is 'making a mockery' of Romanian businesses and consumers, while 'shaking hands' with the gambling industry. Gușă concluded by labeling the current administration a 'criminal government' for allegedly destroying competitive Romanian businesses.
