Madrid, Spain – Clinical psychologist Angela Fernández has recently shared insights into common personality traits observed in individuals experiencing anxiety. In a widely viewed online video, Fernández detailed three specific characteristics, emphasizing that understanding these traits is crucial for effective emotional regulation and personal growth. According to Fernández, the first trait is "high responsibility," where individuals are often self-exigent, rigorous, and disciplined, striving for perfection in their tasks. "They tend to seek perfection constantly," Fernández stated, highlighting that while responsibility is generally valued, an excessive degree can lead to mental rigidity. She advises such individuals to cultivate flexibility to manage their anxiety. The second trait identified is "excessive kindness," which manifests as generosity, cooperativeness, and altruism. Fernández explained that people with this trait often struggle to set boundaries and tend to tolerate too much, frequently prioritizing others' needs over their own. "They have their focus always on others, leading to very little self-care," she noted. For these individuals, learning to set limits is a vital step toward better self-management. Finally, Fernández discussed "neuroticism," characterized by emotional instability, impulsivity, and nervousness. She described these individuals as "highly reactive," maintaining a constant state of alert where even minor disturbances, like a sudden noise or a frustrated plan, can significantly impact them. To counter this, Fernández recommends engaging in activities that promote serenity and tranquility, fostering greater emotional stability through continuous practice. Fernández concluded by stressing that the key to managing these tendencies lies in adopting a flexible and compassionate self-dialogue, avoiding excessive self-exigence, perfectionism, and frustration. Her advice underscores the importance of self-acceptance and mindful self-management in navigating anxiety.
