New Website Empowers Young Disabled Australians
Australia: New Website Empowers Young Disabled People Australia is making strides in supporting its disabled community, and a new initiative is helping young people on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) find their voice. The Youth Disability Advocacy Service (YDAS) recently launched "Right to be Heard," a website designed to provide information and resources to young disabled people, their families, and NDIS service providers. The website was co-designed with disabled young people, ensuring it addresses their specific needs and concerns. "It's so important that disabled young people are able to get the opportunity to develop skills and get information and resources as to how to best self-advocate and represent themselves," says Milja, Head of YDAS, in the accompanying video promoting the website. The video features several young people who share their experiences and offer advice on navigating the system, including how to gather evidence before making a complaint. One young person interviewed, Anna, emphasizes the importance of speaking to a trusted adult for further advice. Another, Willow, highlights the comfort of knowing they're not alone in their experiences. These personal stories underscore the website's value in providing support and guidance. The "Right to be Heard" website is a testament to Australia's commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. By providing accessible information and resources, it helps ensure that disabled young people are equipped to advocate for their rights and receive the support they deserve.
