Kazakhstan's Summer Heat Forces Truck Driving Restrictions
Kazakhstan Imposes Truck Restrictions Amidst Scorching Temperatures Kazakhstan's KazAvtoJol has announced temporary restrictions on heavy truck traffic in the country's southern and western regions from June 1st to August 31st. This measure, effective between 11 AM and 10-11 PM daily, aims to protect the country's roads from damage caused by the extreme heat. Asphalt becomes vulnerable to deformation under heavy loads during high temperatures, potentially leading to road damage. "Our roads are already in poor condition," stated one truck driver interviewed by Azattyq Ruhy. "We pay hefty fees to KazAvtoJol, but the roads remain dilapidated." Another driver added, "The restrictions are unfair, but the poor road quality is a real problem." KazAvtoJol clarified that the restrictions are due to both road safety and the vulnerability of the asphalt in hot weather. The agency emphasized that heavy vehicle traffic during these periods could cause significant damage to the road surface. The restrictions in northern and eastern regions will be in place from June 1st to August 15th. The situation highlights the challenges of maintaining road infrastructure in extreme climates and the ongoing debate surrounding road maintenance funding and quality in Kazakhstan.
