Mexico City's Free Car Theft Check: Peace of Mind for Drivers
Mexico City Offers Free Car Theft Verification Service Mexico City residents can now easily verify if their car is stolen thanks to a free service offered by the city's Attorney General's Office. The service, detailed in a recent Azteca Noticias video, involves a physical inspection of the vehicle to confirm the authenticity of its serial number and check for any alterations. Ulises Zúñiga, from the Attorney General's Office's Vehicle Identification Module, explained the process in an interview. "The public often doesn't know how to check a vehicle on the street," Zúñiga said. "They think checking online platforms is sufficient, but a physical inspection is crucial." The process includes checking the vehicle's serial number against a database of stolen vehicles. If the vehicle is found to be stolen or has altered identification, the owner who brought the vehicle in for verification will not face criminal charges. The car will be impounded and an investigation will commence. This initiative aims to combat car theft and provide peace of mind to citizens. The free service underscores the city's commitment to public safety and transparency.
