Gardener shares simple hack to grow seemingly endless amounts of popular flower…
One TikTok gardener revealed a simple and easy trick to regrow sunflowers and never have to buy new seeds again.
Gardening Enthusiast Shares "Infinite Sunflower Hack" for Sustainable Planting Meredith Steele, known as "babiesofsteele" on social media, recently shared an innovative gardening tip demonstrating how to continuously grow sunflowers from saved seeds. The Maine-based gardener showcased her method for harvesting and storing sunflower seeds, aiming to provide an "infinite" supply for future planting seasons. Steele explained that after sunflower petals have fallen, the heads should be cut from the stalks. While many gardeners traditionally allow the heads to dry on the stalk, Steele opts to bring them indoors to prevent local wildlife, such as chipmunks and deer, from consuming the seeds. "If I leave them, the critters, chipmunks and deer, will come and eat them," Steele stated in her video. The process involves gently removing the pollen and then extracting the seeds from the dried flower heads. Steele demonstrated how to simply rub the heads to release the numerous seeds. She advised drying the harvested seeds indoors for approximately one to two weeks. For winter storage, Steele recommends placing the fully dried seeds in a manila envelope, which is then stored inside a Tupperware container along with a damp paper towel. This method, she asserts, ensures the seeds remain viable for planting the following spring. Steele also highlighted the diversity of sunflower seeds, noting that their appearance (purple, striped, white, or black) varies depending on the specific flower type. This practical guide offers a sustainable approach for gardeners looking to maintain their sunflower patches year after year.
