Malaysia Reassures Public: LPG Subsidies Remain
Malaysia maintains LPG subsidies for domestic users amid crackdown on illegal activities. Kuala Lumpur, May 31, 2025 – The Malaysian government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing subsidies for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to domestic consumers. This announcement comes in response to recent public confusion and concerns following an operation launched in May to combat the illegal diversion and misuse of subsidized LPG. Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, stated, "There has been no decision to discontinue the subsidy." The operation, known as "Ops Gasak," has resulted in inspections of restaurants and food outlets, leading to some concerns about potential policy changes. However, the Minister clarified that the inspections are primarily focused on raising awareness about permit requirements for businesses using more than three 14kg LPG tanks. "The inspections are an advocacy effort to ensure compliance, not a sign of any new policy," Datuk Armizan added. The ongoing efforts to combat illegal LPG activities are aimed at safeguarding the subsidy program and ensuring its benefits reach the intended domestic consumers. The government's commitment to maintaining the subsidy underscores its dedication to supporting the welfare of Malaysian households.
