Malaysia Eases LPG Regulations: No More Permits for Cylinders Under 42kg
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – May 31, 2025 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) announced today that LPG cylinders under 42 kilograms no longer require permits. This new regulation, effective immediately, simplifies the process for consumers and businesses using smaller quantities of LPG. "The use of subsidized gas cylinders not exceeding 42 kilograms, or three 14-kilogram cylinders, no longer requires a permit," stated a KPDN spokesperson. Businesses using more than 42 kilograms of LPG are still required to obtain a permit through the Business Licensing Electronic Support System (BLESS 2.0). The KPDN spokesperson further emphasized that during the OPS GASAK period, LPG suppliers are permitted to continue supplying subsidized LPG to customers, even without a permit if the quantity is below 42kg. This change is expected to ease the burden on consumers and small businesses.
