Malaysia's Fight for a Smoke-Free Generation: Challenges and Successes Malaysia is actively combating smoking and vaping, aiming to create a healthier future for its citizens. Recent statistics show a decrease in conventional cigarette smoking among adults, from 21.3% in 2011 to 19.0% in 2023. However, the rise in vaping among teenagers is concerning, increasing from 9.8% in 2017 to 14.9% in 2022. The government is implementing the "Control of Tobacco Product Act 2024", supported by the WHO, to address this issue. "The Control of Tobacco Product Act 2024 is a crucial step towards a healthier Malaysia," says Dr. Noraryana Hassan, Deputy Director of the KKM's Disease Control Division. "It's about creating a smoke-free generation." The video also features interviews with former smokers who share their struggles and triumphs in quitting. One former smoker, Mohamad Taufiq Yaakob, emphasizes the importance of personal commitment and support systems in overcoming addiction. He states, "I quit smoking because of my family, I wanted to be healthy for them." Despite the challenges, Malaysia is on a strong path to reducing smoking rates and creating a healthier future for its people.
