Moldovagaz License Suspended: Ceban Assures Public, Highlights Unbundling Challenges
Moldova's energy sector is facing uncertainty as Moldovagaz, the country's primary gas supplier, has had its license temporarily suspended. The news has sparked concern among citizens, but Vadim Ceban, head of Moldovagaz, has moved to reassure the public. In an interview, Ceban explained that the suspension is a result of the ongoing unbundling process, a requirement by the European Union to separate gas transportation from supply. He stated, "The situation is not critical. Moldovagaz is prepared for the separation of transportation and supply functions, as required by the EU." While the temporary suspension is in effect, Ceban confirmed that Moldovagaz continues to maintain the gas system. The company is awaiting decisions from its shareholders, Gazprom and Tiraspoltransgaz, regarding the necessary documentation. Ceban expressed confidence that Moldovagaz will regain its license once the unbundling process is complete, emphasizing the company's commitment to dialogue and its importance as a socially significant entity. The temporary suspension highlights the challenges Moldova faces in its transition towards energy independence and closer integration with the European Union.
