Moldovagaz Fraud Accusations Rock Moldova: Political Bloc Demands Action
Moldovan Political Bloc Accuses Moldovagaz of Fraud, Demands Ceban's Removal Chisinau, Moldova – Members of the "Împreună" (Together) political bloc have leveled serious accusations of fraud against Moldovagaz, the state-owned natural gas company. In a press conference held on June 5th, 2025, the bloc presented evidence suggesting millions of lei in losses due to alleged corrupt practices. Their main target is Vadim Ceban, the interim president of Moldovagaz's administration council, whom they demand be removed from his position. The accusations stem from an ANRE (National Agency for Energy Regulation) inspection of Chișinău-Gaz, a subsidiary of Moldovagaz. The inspection uncovered significant irregularities resulting in losses exceeding 33 million lei. Sergiu Tofilat, a member of the "Împreună" bloc, stated, "We analyzed several tenders and found suspicious things. We notified the SIS (Information and Security Service) and discussed it with ANRE, and they initiated a check." Moldovagaz responded to the allegations in an official statement, asserting that ANRE acted objectively. However, the "Împreună" bloc remains firm in its demand for Ceban's dismissal, highlighting his alleged inaction despite knowledge of the irregularities. The situation underscores concerns about transparency and accountability within Moldova's energy sector and the ongoing political climate.
