Bolivia's Fuel Crisis: Arica Port Delays Cause Shortages
Bolivia Faces Fuel Shortages Due to Arica Port Delays ARICA, CHILE—Bolivia is experiencing fuel shortages due to severe weather conditions in the port of Arica, Chile. Over 140 million liters of gasoline, diesel, and crude oil remain stranded on six ships, unable to be unloaded due to strong winds and rough seas. The state-owned oil company YPFB confirmed the delays, stating that the adverse weather has significantly hampered operations. "The climatic conditions, including strong winds and high waves, have prevented the unloading and entry of fuel into Bolivia," said an official from YPFB. The government is working to find alternative solutions to expedite the process, once the weather improves. Fuel will be transported by tankers with a daily capacity of up to 24 million liters. A local resident, Maria Sanchez, expressed her frustration, saying, "We are worried. The gas stations are running low on fuel. We hope the government finds a quick solution." Despite the current difficulties, YPFB and the Bolivian government are actively working to resolve the situation. Once the weather improves, the fuel will be transported to Bolivia, ensuring the country's supply is restored.
