New Orleans Jailbreak: Sheriff's Failure to Process Crime Scene Delays Investigation
Ten inmates escaped from a New Orleans correctional facility last week. Seven days later, investigators realized that the local sheriff had not requested proper processing of the scene for forensic evidence, including DNA samples and fingerprints. "Investigators realized that the sheriff here had not asked for investigators to properly process the scene for forensic evidence," reported CBS News. However, the Orleans Parish district attorney says the scene has been processed. The New Orleans Police have since executed nearly 40 search warrants. Five inmates remain at large. One employee is accused of helping the escape, but his attorney states he was merely unclogging a toilet as requested by a guard. The search continues.
