Three-Flippered Turtle's Triumphant Return to the Ocean
Juno Beach, Florida – In a heartwarming turn of events, Dilly Dally, a young loggerhead sea turtle, has been released back into the Atlantic Ocean after months of intensive rehabilitation. Dilly Dally was discovered at the end of January 2025 by the Inwater Research Group, suffering from severe shark bite wounds. "Those wounds were so severe, we did have to perform an amputation surgery," explained Marika Weber, a veterinary technician at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, where Dilly Dally received treatment. Despite the loss of a flipper, Dilly Dally made a full recovery. Now, equipped with a state-of-the-art satellite tracking device, thanks to a partnership with the Smithsonian, her journey can be followed in real-time, providing invaluable data for sea turtle conservation efforts. "It's always a really special day," added Weber, reflecting on the successful release, highlighting the significance of the event for the staff, volunteers, and all those involved in sea turtle conservation. This remarkable story underscores the importance of protecting these threatened creatures and the dedication of those working to ensure their survival.
