Dominican Community Celebrates Success in Fight for Clean Streets
Improved Sanitation Celebrated in Pantoja, Dominican Republic Residents of the Pantoja district in the Dominican Republic are celebrating improved hygiene conditions thanks to increased garbage collection efforts by the local municipal government. For months, residents had voiced concerns about inadequate waste management, but according to Damaris Perez, president of the Mothers' Club in the Carmen Renata III residential area, the situation has dramatically improved since April 13th. "Since April 13th, the situation has been very different," says Perez in an interview featured in a recent news report. "There is no trash here. We see the garbage trucks every day." Perez also emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining the improved conditions. She stated, "We must unify and pay for waste collection services. It's a way for me to claim my rights." The positive change in Pantoja serves as an example of how effective local government action, combined with community involvement, can lead to significant improvements in public health and environmental conditions.
