Quetzaltenango Nursing Home Transformed: A Collaboration for Improved Living Conditions Quetzaltenango, Guatemala – In a heartwarming display of community collaboration, the "La Misericordia" Men's Nursing Home has undergone a significant transformation. Deputy Cristian Álvarez GT, along with authorities from the Hospital Regional de Occidente and the National Civil Police, spearheaded a cleanup project to remove years of accumulated scrap metal and debris. "We're very happy to celebrate the cleanup of this area," stated Deputy Álvarez in an interview featured in the video. "Our commitment is to finish what we started years ago and provide a better space for our elderly." The project involved removing large quantities of ferrous scrap metal, which was a significant challenge. Dr. Iván F. Alegría, director of the Hospital Regional de Occidente, noted in the video, "We've removed approximately 40-45% of the scrap metal, but the large equipment like X-ray machines and surgical lamps remain." The police played a crucial role in coordinating the removal of materials. Erick Osoy, a police officer, explained, "We're working to determine the proper procedure for disposing of the remaining inventory." The successful collaboration between government, healthcare, and law enforcement agencies demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of the elderly residents. The nursing home is now a cleaner and safer environment, highlighting the positive impact of collective action.
