Capotillo's Sixth Security Plan: A New Approach to Old Problems
Capotillo, a neighborhood in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, known for its high crime rate, is facing its sixth security plan in just four years. The latest initiative, launched on May 31st, 2025, marks a shift in strategy, moving away from solely military deployments to a multi-agency collaboration. This new plan involves the National Police, the DNCD, the Ministry of Defense, and the Public Ministry, working together to conduct raids and inspections across the community. "This time, we're focusing on a more community-based approach," stated a police spokesperson in an interview. The plan includes community engagement programs in addition to increased patrols and law enforcement presence. While previous plans yielded mixed results, authorities remain committed to improving the safety and security of Capotillo residents. The hope is that this sixth attempt will finally bring lasting positive change to the neighborhood.
