Dominican Students Take the Reins of Local Government in Inspiring Program
Villa La Mata, Dominican Republic: High school students participate in a unique program called "From Classroom to City Hall." The initiative, supported by Mayor Eliseo Peña Jiménez, gives students a hands-on experience in municipal governance. Students presented proposals on various local issues, including infrastructure improvements. "This is the first time in Sánchez Ramírez province that students have been so involved in local government," said Mayor Peña Jiménez. One student, speaking to CDN37, shared, "It was a great experience, and it motivated us to learn more about how our city works." The program's success highlights the importance of engaging young people in local decision-making and shows a positive initiative by the municipality.
