Ghana's Western Region BECE Exams Begin: MCE Confident, High Girl Turnout Noted
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) commenced in Ghana's Western Region on June 11, 2025, with over 44,000 candidates participating. At Takoradi Technical University, one of the examination centers, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdul-Majeed Dokurigu, expressed confidence in the smooth conduct of the exams. In an interview, Mr. Dokurigu stated, "We have prepared them well. For the last one month, we've had a lot of sessions within the municipality to groom them for this examination." He attributed this confidence to extensive prior sensitization efforts undertaken by the municipality. Mr. Dokurigu also highlighted the significant participation of female students, noting, "Over 1600 of them being girls." This high turnout underscores the growing emphasis on girls' education in the region. The overall atmosphere at the examination center was calm and orderly, suggesting a well-organized and peaceful examination process.
