Bribery Scandal Rocks Ghanaian Exams: WAEC Official Exposes BECE Cheating
Bribery Allegations Rock Ghanaian Exams: WAEC Official Exposes BECE Malpractice Ghana's 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been marred by allegations of widespread malpractice. John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), revealed in an exclusive interview with Channel One TV that students paid invigilators to turn a blind eye to cheating. "Students were made to pay invigilators to look away," Kapi stated, highlighting the severity of the problem. His comments followed reports of students bringing unauthorized materials, including mobile phones and photocopies of answers, into exam halls. Kapi expressed his suspicion that either searches were not conducted properly or that invigilators deliberately ignored violations due to prior arrangements. The revelations underscore the urgent need for stricter measures to combat exam malpractice and ensure fair assessment of students. WAEC is expected to launch an investigation into these allegations, and further measures to strengthen exam integrity are anticipated.
