Moldovan Economic Outlook: Widespread Pessimism as Prices Soar
Moldovan Pessimism: Economic Survey Reveals Gloom Moldova, May 28, 2025 – A new survey by iData paints a concerning picture of the Moldovan economy, revealing widespread pessimism among citizens. The survey, conducted between May 17th and 24th, polled 1006 respondents across 293 locations, using a combination of CATI (80%) and CAPI (20%) methods. The margin of error is +/- 3%. Key findings show that 39% of respondents believe the economic situation has worsened compared to the previous three months, while only 13.9% reported improvement. Looking ahead, 42% anticipate no change in the next three months, but a significant 67% expect prices to rise. "The result of -23 for May 2025 indicates clear pessimism among consumers regarding the current economic situation," stated Mihai Bologan, director general of iData. Bologan highlighted that this pessimism is largely driven by inflationary expectations, with two-thirds of respondents anticipating price increases in the coming months. He also noted that those with lower incomes tended to be more pessimistic than those with higher incomes. The survey's comprehensive methodology and the inclusion of expert analysis make it a valuable resource for understanding public sentiment and its implications for the Moldovan economy.
