José Luis Camacho, experto de la Aemet: «Septiembre será más caliente»
Entre el cambio climático y «un Atlántico activo y sin bloqueos claros», el próximo mes seguirá siendo de altas temperaturas
Madrid, Spain – José Luis Camacho, spokesperson for the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), has issued a forecast for September, indicating that the month is expected to be warmer than historical averages. Speaking on COPE, Camacho detailed a "dynamic" weather pattern for the Iberian Peninsula, characterized by an active Atlantic and a lack of clear atmospheric blocks. "We can expect a warmer September," Camacho stated, elaborating that this dynamic atmospheric state means "we are going to have a September with many phenomena." He specified these would include "passages of fronts, activations, cool-downs, warm-ups, and alternations." Beyond the immediate forecast, Camacho addressed the broader climatic context. "Globally, the atmosphere is progressively getting warmer," he explained, referencing what is widely understood as climate change. He pointed to a clear trend of rising temperatures, noting, "we have what we consider climate change, in general we have temperatures that are gradually increasing." Highlighting the impact on Spain, Camacho recalled a significant warming trend over the Iberian Peninsula. "We had a warming that rose over the Iberian Peninsula in 2022," he said, further adding that "22, 23, 24 are cataloged as the warmest combined years over the peninsula in the historical series." He concluded by reiterating that September's forecast for increased warmth is particularly notable when compared to conditions 50 years ago.
