Spanish Study Seeks 10,000 Wine Drinkers to Unravel Health Secrets
A Spanish university is conducting a large-scale study on the health effects of moderate alcohol consumption. Researchers at the University of Navarra are recruiting 10,000 volunteers to determine if moderate alcohol intake is healthier than complete abstinence, focusing on heart disease, cancer, and dementia. The study is open to men aged 50-70 and women aged 55-75 who consume at least three alcoholic drinks per week. "It's a fascinating study," says one interviewee, "comparing moderate drinking to not drinking at all is really important for understanding the risks." So far, 4,000 people have signed up, with a goal of 10,000 by June 2025. The results could significantly impact public health guidelines and our understanding of alcohol's effects on long-term health.
