Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has publicly addressed recent accusations leveled against members of his government, describing them as a "blood libel" and a calculated attempt to destabilize the administration. Speaking in a recent interview, Orbán stated that while his initial inclination was to disregard the allegations, the personal nature of the attacks, particularly against Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, necessitated a robust response. "I initially said we should just let it go," Orbán recounted, "but Zsolt Semjén stood up to it because he was personally attacked." The Prime Minister explained that he accepted Semjén's argument that the situation was far more serious than mere slander. "It's not about them saying this or that about us," Orbán asserted, "but about accusing members of the government of the most serious crimes possible." Orbán emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "If members of the government truly commit such crimes, then the government must resign. It is impossible for ministers who commit such crimes to be protected by the authorities." "It turned out that the whole thing is a well-constructed foreign intelligence operation aimed at overthrowing the government," Orbán claimed. According to the Prime Minister, the objective of these accusations is not merely to damage reputations but to create a pretext for widespread public outrage. "They wanted to create a blood libel against us, against which the entire country could rightly rebel, and the government could be weakened, at minimum paralyzed, but perhaps even overthrown," he stated. Orbán concluded by stressing that the defense extends beyond personal honor to the very functionality and operational capacity of the government and the state.
