Jetski Causes Panic
Jetskis are a nuisance enough on Costa Tropical without them running up onto the beach narrowly missing beachgoers.
CALAHONDA, MIJAS – A routine day at La Luna beach in Calahonda turned into a moment of panic on August 12, 2025, when a jet ski lost control and surged towards the crowded shoreline. The incident, captured on video, shows the personal watercraft accelerating erratically as bathers scrambled to get out of its path. According to municipal sources, the jet ski's accelerator reportedly became stuck, causing the vessel to move at a high speed directly towards the area where people were swimming and relaxing. Eyewitnesses described a scene of immediate alarm as the jet ski breached the designated swimming area and came to rest on the sand, narrowly missing beachgoers and their belongings. Despite the high speed and the close proximity to numerous individuals, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries. Lifeguards were seen quickly responding to the situation, securing the jet ski and ensuring the safety of the public. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety regulations in busy recreational waters. "It was a real scare," stated one beachgoer, "We thought someone was going to get seriously hurt. It's a miracle no one was injured." The quick reaction of the bathers and the malfunction preventing a worse outcome are being credited for the fortunate conclusion to what could have been a tragic event.
