Matalascañas, Huelva – On August 14, 2025, beachgoers at Matalascañas were met with an unexpected scene as an unusually high tide significantly reduced the available beachfront, submerging beach chairs and umbrellas and reaching the base of coastal structures. The video, filmed by a local resident, shows the sea covering areas typically used for sunbathing, with water appearing muddy from the disturbed sand. Witnesses were observed navigating the encroaching waters, with some seen moving their belongings to higher ground near the steps leading up from the beach. While some online comments attributed the phenomenon to natural tidal cycles, others expressed concern, linking it to climate change or local administrative neglect regarding beach maintenance. One commenter stated, "What a shame, they've run out of land when the tide comes in. This is going to happen to ALL OF US. Climate change is already here, it's only just begun." Another remarked, "The neglect of administrations. The government of Almonte prioritizes the blue zone over fixing its beaches. It used to be one of Andalusia's best beaches, and they've ruined it." The event has sparked discussion among locals about the future of the popular coastal area.
