A Naturopathic doctor on TikTok proclaimed normal household items were too "toxic" to use and urged people to buy natural alternatives.
A naturopathic doctor has shared a video identifying several common household products found at Target that he considers toxic and advises against using. The video, which has gained significant attention online, highlights items ranging from scented candles to kitchenware and cleaning supplies.According to Dr. Pedi Mirdamadi, ND, scented candles are "highly toxic" due to fragrances and chemicals that can trigger asthma and allergies. He also cautioned against plastic drinking bottles for children, even those labeled "BPA-free," stating they contain other harmful bisphenols and phthalates. Instead, he recommended glass bottles coated with plastic for protection.Black kitchen utensils and non-stick cookware were also listed as major sources of microplastics and "P-FAS" chemicals, respectively. Dr. Mirdamadi suggested opting for wood utensils, and ceramic or cast iron cookware as safer alternatives. In the cleaning aisle, Clorox disinfectant wipes were singled out for containing "very harmful, strong, aggressive chemicals" that he claims are "cancer-causing," especially if children are present. He recommended Seventh Generation and Branch Basics as better, less toxic cleaning alternatives.Fragranced garbage bags were advised against due to harmful fragrances detectable from a distance, with a preference for fragrance-free options. Lastly, plastic food storage containers and aluminum foil were identified as sources of harmful bisphenols, plastic byproducts, and aluminum, a heavy metal. Dr. Mirdamadi recommended using glass containers instead of plastic and limiting the use of foil. The doctor stated his intention was "not to induce fear but to help you make more mindful decisions so that you can protect the health of yourself and your family." He emphasized that minimizing toxin exposure is a root cause in supporting health.
