Cristian Alarcón's "Testosterona" Explores Childhood Hormone Treatment and Masculinity
BOGOTÁ, Colombia - Journalist and writer Cristian Alarcón is set to present his new play, "Testosterona," in Bogotá this Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21. The theatrical work explores a profound personal journey, recounting Alarcón's experience of undergoing hormone treatment for masculinization between the ages of six and eight. In an exclusive interview, Alarcón shared insights into the genesis of his play, revealing that the recollection of these childhood testosterone injections in 2019 profoundly impacted him. This personal revelation led him to write a poem, which subsequently informed sections of his novel "El tercer paraíso" and an essay on contemporary masculinity. Alarcón emphasized that his intention with "Testosterona" is not to dwell on the morbid aspects of trauma, but rather to delve into the creation of a future possibility and an existence that transcends past pain. The play intertwines themes of trauma, masculinity, and even botany, offering a unique and introspective look at identity and healing.
