Guatemala City Driver Arrested for Sophisticated License Plate Concealment Device

Guatemala City, Guatemala – On June 19, 2025, a 29-year-old man identified as Juan N was arrested in Zona 10 of Guatemala City by agents of the National Civil Police (PNC). The arrest occurred after police discovered a sophisticated mechanism on his black Honda Civic that allowed him to quickly change the vehicle's license plates.Authorities noted that the device enabled the driver to switch between three different license plates: one corresponding to a Honda Civic, another to a Toyota Camry, and a third to a Honda CRV. The additional plates did not match the vehicle being driven.The incident took place on 4th Avenue and 20th Street, where the vehicle was parked, raising suspicions among officers from Precinct 13. Following the discovery, the vehicle was impounded and transferred to the Specialized Division of Criminal Investigation (DEIC) for further expert analysis to determine the true plates corresponding to the vehicle.The National Civil Police has issued a public appeal, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities related to similar illicit practices. The PNC reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations aimed at dismantling criminal structures that utilize such technologies to evade the law.
