Woman Fined Q10,000 for Assaulting Tourism Agent in Panajachel
Guatemala City, Guatemala – A woman identified as Maria Alejandra Hernandez Contreras, originally from Gualán, Zacapa, has been ordered to pay a fine of 10,000 Quetzales (Q10,000) to a tourism police agent she assaulted in Panajachel on May 28. The incident, which initially began as a public disturbance, escalated into an assault, leading to legal proceedings. According to Moisés Ortiz, spokesperson for the Public Ministry, the individual was brought before a judicial body. Through a de-judicializing measure and an agreement reached with the aggrieved agent, Ms. Hernandez Contreras was obligated to pay the aforementioned sum as "dignified reparation." This payment resolves her legal situation regarding the incident that occurred on Santander Avenue in Panajachel. Authorities have also suggested that she maintain distance from the victim to avoid further repercussions.
