Guatemala City, Guatemala – The Tenth Criminal Sentencing Tribunal has delivered its verdict in the high-profile murder case of popular content creator and singer Jorge Sebastián Pop, widely known as Farruko Pop. In a significant ruling, two individuals, Carlos López and Marcos Daniel Sunún, have been ordered to pay 20,000 quetzales each as part of a 'dignified reparation' for Pop's assassination. This compensation is in addition to their prison sentences. The tribunal further stipulated that a clarifying statement must be publicly issued. This statement, to be published in the official gazette and a newspaper of wide circulation, will explicitly state that Farruko Pop had no ties to the Barrio 18 gang and that his brother was not implicated in the crime. This aims to dispel any misinformation surrounding the victim's character and family. Regarding the criminal sentences, Carlos López was handed a 20-year and 8-month prison term, deemed incommutable, for his role as an accomplice in the assassination. Marcos Daniel Sunún received a more substantial sentence of 29 years and 8 months for committing the assassination. The court's decision was based on a thorough review of documentary, material, and audiovisual evidence, which conclusively identified the accused as participants in the crime against the young content creator.
