Hurricane Erick Approaches Acapulco: Authorities Urge Residents to Shelter and Follow Official Warnings
Acapulco, Guerrero - As Hurricane Erick approaches, local authorities are urging residents to take immediate precautions. Fernando Reina, in collaboration with Dr. Roberto Arroyo Matus, Secretary of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Guerrero, issued a public warning today, June 18th, highlighting the impending impact on Acapulco's coast. Dr. Arroyo Matus confirmed that Civil Protection teams are actively patrolling various areas of Acapulco, disseminating information and alerts via loudspeakers. He emphasized the importance of relying solely on official sources for updates and avoiding the spread of rumors. Residents are strongly advised to remain calm, prepare responsibly, and, most importantly, stay indoors from 8:00 PM tonight, as the meteorological phenomenon is expected to bring strong winds. "We have had a meeting with the State Council for Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, with our Governor, and with representatives from all three levels of government to implement activities that protect and safeguard the integrity of all people," stated Dr. Arroyo Matus. He added, "There are probabilities of strong winds, so it is preferable that we shelter in our homes." Reina underscored the collective responsibility of citizens, urging everyone to cooperate with authorities and support each other. "Let's take care of ourselves and heed official sources. Civil Protection of the State Government is passing by to announce and inform us in time. Let's pay attention to them. It's also our job as citizens. Let's help each other, hand in hand, we will get through any phenomenon that presents itself," he said. The officials extended gratitude to the Secretariat of Marine, the Army, the National Guard, and all entities working to support Acapulco during this critical time. The message remains clear: preparedness and adherence to official guidelines are paramount for public safety.
