Mamaia, Romania – A British tourist, identified as 'fringa' on social media, recently arrived in the popular Black Sea resort of Mamaia after a motorcycle journey from Great Britain. His arrival, however, was met with sticker shock over the local food prices, which he documented in a recent video. In his video, the tourist highlighted the exorbitant cost of traditional resort fare, specifically mentioning that a mere 100 grams of anchovies (hamsi) is priced at 40 Romanian Lei (RON), equivalent to approximately 8 Euros. He also noted that even a simple bowl of soup could not be found for less than 30 RON. Expressing his disappointment, the traveler stated, 'We can't eat a portion of anchovies because the price for 100 grams is 40 lei. If we eat two portions, it's 80 lei, which is almost 20 Euros for 100 grams of anchovies.' He concluded that due to these high prices, he and his partner decided to purchase more affordable groceries, such as tomatoes, cheese, and ham from a local market, to prepare their own meals. His observations shed light on the rising costs in Romanian tourist destinations, a topic of growing concern for both visitors and local residents.
