Brazil's INSS Cracks Down on Fraud: Facial Biometrics Now Required for Retiree Loans
Brazil's INSS Implements Facial Biometrics for Retiree Loans Brazil's Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) announced a new security measure to combat fraud in loan applications from retirees and pensioners. Starting May 23rd, 2025, all new applications will require facial biometrics for verification. This follows a recent scandal involving significant financial losses due to unauthorized loan deductions. "This new system will help us protect the benefits of our retirees and pensioners," said an INSS official in an interview featured in the g1 news report. The INSS is taking steps to ensure a smooth transition. While the Meu INSS app is the primary method of application, those facing difficulties can seek in-person assistance at post offices nationwide starting May 30th. The INSS aims to swiftly process legitimate applications and prevent future fraudulent activities, safeguarding the financial well-being of its beneficiaries. This initiative signifies a proactive approach to protecting vulnerable populations from financial exploitation.
