Brazil's INSS Cracks Down on Loan Fraud with Biometric Security
INSS in Brazil Implements Biometric Security for Payroll Loans Following Fraudulent Deductions Brazil's National Institute of Social Security (INSS) has announced new security measures for accessing payroll loans for retirees and pensioners. The move comes in response to widespread reports of unauthorized deductions affecting over two million individuals. Starting this week, biometric verification will be mandatory for unlocking new loans via the Meu INSS platform, both online and via the mobile app. "Over two million retirees and pensioners have reported unauthorized deductions," states a news report from SBT News. The INSS president, Gilberto Waller Jr., confirmed the issue in an exclusive interview, explaining, "This is being done on a separate platform; the attendant cannot access account numbers or cadastral data. They can only access the platform to verify if there was a discount or not and assist our retirees and pensioners in signaling if that discount was due or not." The government has pledged to reimburse a total of 292 million reais to those affected by the fraudulent deductions. The reimbursement process will begin on Monday, offering relief to those who experienced financial hardship due to the unauthorized deductions. The new biometric system aims to prevent future instances of fraud and enhance the security of the loan system for INSS beneficiaries.
