Rio Police Operation: Avenida Brasil and Linha Vermelha Closed
Police Operation in Rio's Complexo do Israel Causes Major Traffic Disruptions A major police operation targeting the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) drug trafficking group in Rio de Janeiro's Complexo do Israel has caused significant traffic disruptions on Avenida Brasil and Linha Vermelha. The operation, which began early Tuesday morning, June 10th, 2025, involved the execution of arrest and search warrants. According to police, the action is the culmination of a seven-month investigation into the TCP's activities. "The operation is the result of 7 months of investigations, which led to the identification of 44 traffickers without prior warrants," a police spokesperson stated. The closures have affected BRT lines and train services. A witness reported hearing "the sound of gunfire." The temporary disruption of BRT services has left at least three lines operating with irregular intervals. The incident also resulted in damage to the SuperVia aerial network in the Parada Lucas region, impacting train services on the Saracuruna line. Despite the challenges, residents are cooperating, with some seen walking to work. Authorities are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
