Lawns won't be 'brown and scorched' when watered at specific times
Garden designer Ish explained that there are two specific times of day when people should water their lawns to protect them from irreparable damage.
As summer temperatures rise, many homeowners face the challenge of keeping their lawns lush and green. Gardening expert Ish shares essential tips to prevent browning and maintain a healthy lawn, even during droughts. According to Ish, the key to a vibrant lawn lies in proper soil preparation. "First things first, we need to make sure the ground isn't compact and hard and has air and drainage going through it," he explains. Compact soil prevents water from soaking in, leading to evaporation and wasted effort. He suggests using an aerator or a scarifier to create holes, allowing water to penetrate deeply. For those without specialized equipment, a simple garden fork can achieve similar results by poking holes directly into the soil. Another crucial tip involves grass length. While many prefer a perfectly short lawn, Ish advises against it. "Keep it too short and you're doing more stress than good to it," he states. Longer grass creates natural shade for the ground, helping to retain moisture and prevent rapid evaporation. This simple change can significantly contribute to a healthier, greener appearance. Finally, Ish highlights the importance of watering at the right time. He recommends watering in the early morning, between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, or in the evening, from 9:00 PM onwards. "When the ground temperature gets a little cooler and the air too, meaning that it will fully soak your lawn and stop it from evaporating," he elaborates. For convenience, he suggests using a sprinkler to ensure thorough and efficient watering. Following these straightforward steps, homeowners can transform or revive their lawns, ensuring they remain green and vibrant throughout the summer season.
