Ghanaian Minister Threatens Sanctions Over Telecel Broadband Price Hike
Ghanaian Minister Addresses Telecel Broadband Price Hike Ghana's capital, Accra - June 11, 2025 - Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, addressed concerns over a recent price increase by Telecel on its fixed broadband services. The increase, amounting to 20-30 cedis, has sparked public outcry. "Telecel did some increases on their fixed broadband…the regulator has been informed and as a ministry we are having a conversation with the operator on the reversal of that increase. Any operator that charges beyond the approved rate, there will be sanctions," stated Minister George. The Ministry is actively working with the regulatory body to ensure that Telecel reverses the price increase and that all telecommunication companies adhere to approved rates. Failure to comply will result in sanctions. This action demonstrates the government's commitment to fair pricing and consumer protection within Ghana's telecommunications sector.
