Metro Manila Gridlock: Motorcycle Riders Bear Brunt of No Contact Apprehension Policy
Quezon City Traffic Gridlock: Motorcycle Riders Face No Contact Apprehension Policy Quezon City, Philippines – The reimplementation of the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) has caused significant traffic congestion on Commonwealth Avenue, particularly impacting motorcycle riders. The policy, aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic violations, has inadvertently led to long queues in motorcycle lanes. "It's a real hassle," said Mark Alutya, a motorcycle taxi rider. "The fines are so high, it's better to sit in this traffic than risk getting caught." Many riders are adjusting their schedules to avoid peak hours and the resulting traffic jams. Ian Pomarejos, another rider, commented, "I have to wake up earlier now to avoid being late for work. The traffic was terrible yesterday." The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is implementing NCAP on several major roads, including Commonwealth Avenue, using over 327 installed cameras to monitor traffic violations. While cameras are used for enforcement, the MMDA also has traffic enforcers deployed to areas without camera coverage. Despite the challenges, the MMDA remains committed to improving road safety and traffic management in Metro Manila. The long-term effects of the NCAP on traffic flow and rider behavior remain to be seen.
