MRT-3 Removes X-ray Machines to Ease Congestion During EDSA Rehabilitation
Metro Manila MRT-3 Removes X-ray Machines to Speed Up Commutes Amidst EDSA Rehabilitation To alleviate traffic congestion during the upcoming EDSA rehabilitation, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has made the decision to remove X-ray machines from several MRT-3 stations. This move, while intended to expedite passenger flow, has generated mixed reactions among commuters. "Para mapabilis ang biyahe ng mga pasahero," explained a DOTr official in the GMA Integrated News report, "inalis na ang X-ray machines sa ilang istasyon ng MRT-3." The official further elaborated on the DOTr's plan to begin MRT-3 operations earlier to mitigate the impact of the EDSA roadworks. However, some commuters expressed concerns about the removal of the security measure. One commuter stated, "Medyo maliliit na ulol," voicing apprehension about potential safety risks. The DOTr addressed these concerns by highlighting the increased visibility of security personnel, including the Coast Guard, and the implementation of metal detectors as a replacement security measure. The report also showed the removal of X-ray machines at the Boni Avenue station and the poor visibility of signage at other stations. The DOTr plans to improve this signage. The increased security presence and the planned addition of three more trains during peak hours are expected to reduce commute times from 30-45 minutes to 5-10 minutes. The initiative demonstrates the DOTr's commitment to improving public transportation and managing the challenges posed by large-scale infrastructure projects.
